FAQ
  • How does the personal training part of BeTrained work?
    A BeTrained session is a weekly 30 minute one-on-one session with one of our expert personal trainers. These sessions are prebooked (normally the week before, or regularly at the same time each week) and are held at BeTrained's premises in south Hamilton. The sessions are tailormade to your needs. Our personal trainers will find out your goals and create a detailed plan of action to get you to those goals. For some people these goals are clear (weightloss, or training for a fitness test or competition, etc) for others, they simply want the focus of having an expert trainer push them. Alternatively, some clients want their trainer to simply create new fitness programs for them each week, that then allows them to train in the gym by themselves. This is the beauty of BeTrained structure. It has the most flexibility of any personal training program, and as a result, you will get to your goals quickly.
  • Can I have the same personal trainer every week?
    Our personal trainers operate on a roster, and as a result we cannot guarantee you will have the same trainer each week. Although you often will have the same trainer, we believe your goals will be quicker reached by using different trainers throughout BeTrained (i.e. learning new techniques, strategies, and skills that different trainers possess)
  • What do I need to bring to a session (or the gym)?
    Comfortable clothes, suitable shoes, and always bring a hand towel for cleanliness! The towel is used by you to wipe off your sweat and to protect your head on equipment. We are strict about this rule as it benefits everyone positively! We also have spray bottles and paper towels for clients to wipe down their equipment after use. FYI, we have lockers for your gear, showers and a water cooler.
  • What times are available for BeTrained sessions?
    Our personal trainers are rostered on to maximise the needs of our clients. As a result, BeTrained session times are generally available before and after work Monday to Thursday, excl public holidays.
  • How do I get a nutritional consultation?
    Easy, just talk to our staff, and they will book you a session with our nutritional expert! Note: Session availability is generally Tuesday afternoon only. Your nutritional session replaces your BeTrained session for that week.
  • I can't or haven't attended my weekly session, what happens?"
    No Stress! This is our policy: More than 18 hours notice? Contact us and we will do our best to reschedule your appointment for the week. Rescheduling isn't always possible due to the popularity of the BeTrained program, but we will do our very best to fit you in later that week (if suitable time slots are available)! NOTE: A session can only be rebooked for that week, if you cannot make any of the remaining times we have available (or if there are no more remaining times for that week), that weekly session is simply forfeited. But no stress, you can just come to the gym in your own time and undertake the program your trainer has given you! Less than 18 hours notice? If you missed your session or can't make it for whatever reason and you haven't give us 18 hours notice, your session is simply forfeited for that week. Just contact us when you can and we will get you back on track with your session the following week. Easy! NOTE: If you have a regular weekly time slot and are continuously not able to make that time, we will reopen that time slot up to others to ensure fairness to all BeTrained members.
  • Do you have shower facilities I can use after my appointments?
    Yes we do! We have two hot showers!
  • Do you offer childcare facilities during appointments?
    Unfortunately we do not have the space! Our waiting area is also not seperated from the main gym, and therefore unsuitable to leave children in whilst you are working hard with your trainer. Sorry!
  • Where is BeTrained located?
    We are in the south of Hamilton (Glenview/Melville/Hospital area) We are just off Ohaupo Road at the Urlich Shopping Centre Unit 2, 16 Urlich Ave, Melville, Hamilton (Behind the main shops, next to the new Glenview Medical Centre)
  • Do you have parking?
    Yes, you will have access to over 100 car parks!
  • Is BeTrained for both men AND women?
    Yes it sure is! We have a pretty even split between male and female clients!
  • I get access to the gym, but what are it's opening hours?"
    The gym (Be Active Fitness) is open to all BeTrained members free of charge between 4:30am-10:30pm 7 day a week, 365 days a year. The gym isn't always staffed, so if you are wondering when it is staffed, click here: OUR STAFFED TIMES (which are also our Joining and Tour times!)
  • What equipment does the gym have?
    Be Active Fitness, is a full service gym with a complete range of equiment (both cardio, weights, and classes!). Be Active Fitness is NOT simply a personal training studio with a few pieces of equipment dotted around, we offer everything you would expect from a fully equipt gym: Cardio machines (i.e. cycling, rowing, treadmills, cross trainers, boxing etc) Tons of single-pin weights machines (super easy to use!) Plate loaded machines Cable machines Smith Machine and Cages Free weights (i.e. benches, dumbells, kettlebells, barbells, slam balls, etc) A (covered secure) outdoor area featuring a large 13 station functional training rig, with boxing bags!   • The gym has an outdoor area as well, is it covered?"
    It sure is! Our outdoor area has a clear roof on it, and we have steel mesh surrounding the area to ensure great airflow.
  • What sort of classes do I get access too?
    We have a full range of group fitness classes, including instuctor led H.I.I.T / Tabata classes. Our classes include, Circuit, Strong, Core, Functional, Pump, Lowbod, Shred and Bootcamp. Classes target different parts of the body (upper, lower, core, etc) and are held at times suitable to most people (weekday morning and afternoons (after work), and also Saturday morning): CLICK HERE FOR MORE DETAILS
  • Where is your class timetable?

  • Do I need to book for classes?
    No you don't, just turn up and we will fit you in!
  • How can I join BeTrained?
    Easy! You can join in store (during staffed times) or online HERE If you come in to join, bring some ID, cash/card, and if you are looking at joining on a direct debit membership type, also bring a bank account number or a debit/credit card you can use for the regular payments. Also, once you have joined, remember to bring suitable clothing/shoes AND a small hand towel (NB: a towel is compulsory for clients every time they attend an appointment or workout in the gym. We like keeping the facilities clean for all!).
  • Is there a joining fee?
    No. We do not have a joining fee. If you join via a direct debit BeTrained membership, there is a one-off $25 direct debit set-up fee to pay at the time of joining
  • When are payments due?
    DIRECT DEBIT BETRAINED MEMBERSHIPS Initial Payment (on day of joining) Consists of two charges: The $25 direct debit set up fee AND A pro-rated (part) portion of your first week payment (until regular payments begin on Thursdays) Regular Payments Regular payments are weekly on Thursdays UPFRONT BETRAINED MEMBERSHIPS The full payment comes out on the day you join. There is no dd set-up fee for upfront BeTrained memberships.

  • Can I put my BeTrained membership on hold?
    Yes, our policy is as follows: Medical Holds There is no fee for a medical hold. A medical hold requires a written medical certificate from one of the following: a registered GP, a registered nurse practitioner or a registered physiotherapist. The medical hold period is a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 3 months*. Sighting of the medical certificate and signing of the hold form must be done in store during staffed hours prior to the hold commencing. Non-Medical Holds (for example: holiday) We have a $20 hold fee if you want to put your membership on hold for any reason that is not covered by a Medical Hold. Hold period is a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 3 months*. A hold form and the $20 fee must be signed and paid in store during staffed hours prior to the hold commencing. *Note: See in store for full details. If you are on a direct debit BeTrained membership, your hold will begin from the date of your next billing cycle.
  • Can I transfer my BeTrained membership to someone else?
    Generally yes. There is a $40 one-off transfer fee to undertake a transfer. A transfer allows someone else to use the balance of your membership (be it an upfront membership or a minimum term direct debit membership). See in store for details.
  • What is the default fee if I miss a direct debit payment?
    When you have a direct debit BeTrained membership, your contract with the direct debit company states that you will pay them (not us) a $11.50 fee each and every time you miss a payment*. This fee becomes due upon the default and is recovered automatically by the direct debit company at the time of next billing. NOTE: If you joined us pre-March 2019, your direct debit contract may still be with EziDebit. Their default fee per default is $22.90. If you suspect you are still with EziDebit we would encourage you to contact us and we can help you change over (for free) to our new direct debit provider who has much more reasonable default fees!
  • When does my BeTrained membership end?
    Contact us and we will look up your details! As a summary though: UPFRONT MEMBERSHIPS BeTrained sessions and access to the gym and classes ends on the last date of your membership term (you are, of course, welcome to rejoin anytime before that date. If you rejoin early you do not lose time, your new membership simply begins on the day after your old membership ends). DIRECT DEBIT MEMBERSHIPS The BeTrained direct debit membership does not have an end date. It is an ongoing membership with either a minimum 3 or 6 month term (depending on whether you joined on the 3+ or 6+ membership). At any stage after your 3 or 6 month minimum term has been completed, you are permitted to cancel by providing us with 30 days written notice (use email or our contact form on this website). Payments will continue until 30 days after you have provided us with the written notice.
  • How do I cancel my direct debit BeTrained membership?
    The BeTrained direct debit membership does not have an end date. It is an ongoing membership with either a minimum 3 or 6 month term (depending on whether you joined on the 3+ or 6+ membership). At any stage after your 3 or 6 month minimum term has been completed, you are permitted to cancel by providing us with 30 days written notice (use email or our contact form on this website). Payments will continue until 30 days after you have provided us with the written notice. By way of example, if you join on a 6 month minimum direct debit BeTrained membership and you wish to cancel exactly at the 6 month point, you would need to give us written notice at least 30 days before the 6 month date.
  • Can I cancel my direct debit BeTrained membership early?
    The earliest date the BeTrained direct debit membership can be cancelled is at the end of the 3 or 6 month minimum period (the minimum period depends on whether you joined on a 3+ or 6+ month membership). If you wish to cancel at that 3 or 6 month point, you will need to provide us with 30 days written notice before that date. Alternatively, you may want to consider transferring your BeTrained membership to a friend or family member, who will then take over the balance of the minimum term. See in store for more details.
